On Monday, 16 May 2016, a serious incident occurred involving the deck of the new lifting bridge which forms a key part of the Port Salford A57 Road Improvement Scheme.

Our contractors Hochtief Buckingham JV were undertaking a planned lowering of the bridge deck when a major failure occurred, causing the bridge deck to fall 18 metres, leading to significant damage. No-one was injured.

The Health and Safety Executive is leading the investigation into how the incident occurred.

We will be working closely with our contractors and other agencies to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

We will provide updates on this website as and when we have them.
